ROAR Spaces

At ROAR, we’ve always believed that creativity thrives in spaces that are open, welcoming, and supportive. Over time, our drop-in sessions have naturally evolved. They began as entirely untutored, self-directed opportunities to make, explore, and play - and over the years, we’ve started weaving in more structured SkillShare-style sessions, from Plein Air and Portraits to Still Life and themed explorations.

The response has been inspiring. Members have told us how much they enjoy having a starting point, a shared focus, or a theme to respond to -while still being free to develop their own ideas. These sessions support skill-building, experimentation, and personal development, and we’ve seen how much energy, curiosity, and joy they bring to the community.

At the same time, we didn’t want to lose the heart of what makes our drop-ins so special: openness, flexibility, and a sense of creative freedom.

So we’ve taken a step back, listened to what members need, and created clarity. Our weekly programme is now organised into three distinct, complementary spaces: The Space, The Clay Space, and The Calm Space. Each offers a different rhythm and experience, but all share the same ethos: space to make, explore, and grow - together.

The Clay Space - Pottery Drop-In - Mondays | 6pm - 8pm | £10 per session

The Clay Space is a dedicated drop-in for ceramics practice. Unlike The Space, it has no weekly theme - this is your time to focus on your own ideas, refine techniques, and experiment with clay. Whether you throw, hand-build, sculpt, or simply enjoy the process, this session provides consistent, supportive time to develop your practice.

It’s untutored but generous, with a lively, friendly community of makers who are always happy to share advice, tips, and encouragement. £10 per person covers the session, with additional costs for clay and firing. The Clay Space is all about steady development, confidence through practice, and the joy of creating alongside like-minded people.

Location: ClaySpace Studio, ROAR Art Space, Westgate Chambers, S60 1AN

Materials can be provided at additional cost.

The Calm Space - Tuesdays | 10am - 12pm | Fortnightly | Free (First Session TBC)

The Calm Space is our creative meditation session, held every other Tuesday morning. Each session begins and ends with a short guided meditation, helping you arrive, settle, and reflect. In between, you have open creative time to respond in whatever way feels right - drawing, painting, writing, or simply experimenting with materials.

This space is slower, quieter, and reflective, offering a meditative rhythm within the week. It’s free to attend, untutored, and entirely focused on creative wellbeing rather than outcome. Calm Space is about noticing, breathing, and making in a mindful, supportive environment.

Location: ROAR Studios, Grove Road, S60 2ER

The Space - Thursdays | 6pm - 8pm | Free

The Space is our hybrid model, blending the welcoming freedom of a drop-in with the gentle guidance of a weekly focus. Each session has a theme, starting point, creative provocation, or SkillShare topic.

The Space is time to experiment, to observe, to respond and to develop your creative voice. It’s structured enough to offer direction, but flexible enough to allow for curiosity, play, and personal exploration. We aim to release session descriptions six weeks in advance, giving you the chance to plan, while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and inclusive.

Location: ROAR Studios, Grove Road, S60 2ER (unless otherwise stated in session information)

Why These Spaces Matter

Together, these three spaces offer a structured yet flexible weekly rhythm, catering to different creative needs and energies:

The Space encourages exploration and experimentation with gentle prompts and SkillShares mixed in.

The Clay Space supports skill-building, steady practice, and community.

The Calm Space provides reflection, mindfulness, and a slower, restorative creative experience.

Each space is free-flowing, welcoming, and focused on individual development - but always within a shared, collaborative environment. Our aim is to offer a consistent, reliable programme while keeping it open, flexible, and inclusive.
