Wendy Early

Wendy Early is an accomplished textile artist living and creating art from her Yorkshire town. Wendy specialises in creating beautiful handcrafted textile pieces, using cuts of fabric and hand stitches to highlight the unique transformative power of textile art. Her work emboldens the idea of sustainability how reused materials can be used as part of the creative process.

Through her one-of-a-kind felted artwork, Wendy invites viewers to embark on a visual journey. From the moon, stars, skies, and seas, Wendy favours the vibrancy of natural landscapes and animals as the muses for her creative work. By using fabric mediums, she is able to bring her pieces to life in a rich cascade of colours and material textures, evoking a sense of awe and strong emotional connection with the wild world.

When creating pieces, Wendy prioritises sustainable choices, choosing materials from her extensive collection of recycled and upcycled fabrics.  Wendy's art is a reflection of her dedication to the environment, as she creates pieces that not only celebrate nature itself but also promote the welfare and health of the environment. By infusing the old with the spirit of the new, Wendy not only embraces ecology but also adds a layer of meaningful nostalgia and reinvention that can be directly seen in her work.

Drawing upon her expertise in wet felting and needle felting techniques, Wendy brings out the full potential of textile techniques in art. Her intricate designs are thoughtfully crafted layer by layer using merino wool and stitching techniques, to show a wide range of textures, depth, and dimensions that can be seen as part of the natural world.
