Gatherings

The idea behind the Gatherings is to offer artists the opportunity to experience a new place, be with other artists and respond artistically. A residency is usually a longer period of time but ROAR have found that these short bursts of activity can really focus the artists thinking and provoke or push the artists out of their usual routines.

Gatherings are 9 hour mini residencies for artists:

So far ROAR has organised 7 Resigencies and various locations:

  • A factory, Rotherham

  • Art Walk, Wakefield

  • The Factory, Rotherham

  • Wentworth Woodhouse, Rotherham

  • Clifton Park and Museum, Rotherham

  • Doncaster Central Library

  • Barnsley Civic

The Gathering at Wentworth Woodhouse took place on 15th September, lasted 9 hours and 30 artists converged to explore the house and gardens.  The artists came from Rotherham as well as London, Manchester, Lincoln, Wakefield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Nottingham.

It can be quite daunting for a host venue when 30 sculptors, painters, photographers, performers, musicians and poets descend on a building especially when that’s mixed in with the usual tours that the house organises.  With thanks to the staff and volunteers at Wentworth Woodhouse the whole day went off without a hitch.
