Loz Rose

Loz Rose, a recent graduate from University Center Rotherham, is working towards the path ahead as an up-and-coming mixed media artist. Using her talents to create intricate abstract pieces, she aims to explore both the extraordinary and unconventional through the lens of contemporary fine art.

With an innate ability to weave captivating imagery into her pieces, her most recent body of work primarily showcases a striking set of paintings that boast a bold composition between shape and colour. First beginning her work by taking photographs for inspiration, Loz then moulds the ideas into form onto canvas, employing techniques that involve layering multiple coats of acrylic paint alongside hidden layers of ultra-saturated UV reactive paint. This clever combination of eye-catching design immediately draws attention from viewers, encouraging them into a world filled with unique hidden depths and unexpected surprises that can only be shown through the evocative nature of abstract paintings.

Loz's artistic journey began during her foremost years as a child, where she discovered a deep connection to the arts during her early school days. Her weekly art classes became a source of eager passion and opportunity for fresh creative expression. Experimenting using various materials such as colouring books, pipe cleaners, and pom-poms, she nurtured lifelong with devotion to mixed mediums and variety materials that still remain with her to this day.

Following college, her artistic path took a detour she delved into studying Marine and Freshwater Conservation at a university in the Lake District. It was during this time that her connection with the natural environment grew stronger, augmenting an admiration for nature. In her second year of university, however, unforeseen circumstances led Loz to redirect her focus when she decided to leave her course.

Following this time, the pandemic-induced lockdowns provided her the opportunity for a time of introspection and rediscovery, that ultimately rekindled her passion for arts and crafts. With newfound clarity, she made the decision that led her to enrol as a student at UCR. Now as a graduate, she is determined to elevate her artistic talents to new heights and curate successful art exhibitions, such as "Ultraviolet" and "Exodus," in collaboration with fellow artist and ROAR member, Ash Lofthouse. Together the pair work in harmony, aiming to share their works with the rest of the world.
