Neath Champion-Shorr

Artist Feature

Neath Champion-Shorr, a dynamic force in choreography and movement direction, embarked on their artistic journey after earning a BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre from Bird College Conservatoire. Since 2019, Neath's diverse practice has spanned performance and choreography, sound, and visual arts, showcasing their multifaceted talents in photography, sculpture, and beyond. A common thread of movement weaves through all their creations, leaving an indelible mark on stages and screens.

Journey to Now

Originally from Lancing, Neath has called Rotherham home for over two years, experiencing both the highs and lows that have shaped their artistic exploration. Rotherham has served as a catalyst for transformative adventures, challenging explorations, and meaningful connections. For Neath, collaboration, shared experiences, and continuous learning are paramount. Working with professionals across various art forms, from directors to ceramicists to game creators, has enriched Neath's artistic landscape.

Community and Cross-Generational Collaboration

Building community and working cross-generationally are essential values for Neath. Rejecting the notion that having diverse interests might be a problem, Neath views it as their greatest strength. Their involvement in diverse projects and the pursuit of new skills drive their artistic passion. Neath recognises the importance of people in shaping places, and the act of sharing food with others holds particular significance.

Current Projects

As part of the OUTLINE collective's exhibition, Neath presents a collaborative ceramics piece showcased in the Buzz Gallery, with plans to extend its presence beyond this project. Neath's artistic evolution involves exploring themes of body, movement, and authentic self-presentation. Neath aims to use their art to address personal experiences, including growing up in a single-parent family and overcoming challenges associated with a low socio-economic background.

Make it stand out

Future Ventures

While reflecting on past accomplishments, Neath also envisions the future, recognising that growth and change are constants. Expressing a love for sound, they contemplate the possibility of a spoken word, singing, or voice projects in their artistic endeavors, inviting collaboration from those who share a passion for sonic exploration.
